Video: Toverland’s new rollercoaster makes first test flight

Theme park Toverland opens on 7 July 2018 a new entrance called Port Laguna and a new themed area called Avalon. For the past months, Avalon saw the rise of the forty metre tall wing coaster Fēnix. The very first test ride of this spectacular rollercoaster took place yesterday evening. A very special moment that was captured on video.

Around 21:00 hours and accompanied by loud cheering, roller coaster Fēnix flew for the first time across the track with a top speed of 95 kilometres per hour. Caroline Kortooms, General Director, was very impressed by this first flight. “Fēnix is impressive, majestic, robust and fiery. We are so proud of this unique roller coaster!” After the test ride, directors, family members and management toasted to a successful completion. For the next few weeks, this roller coaster shall be extensively tested and will open to visitors on Saturday 7 July 2018.

Three inversions

Fēnix is the very first wing coaster of the Benelux. This type of roller coaster has its seats on either side of the track, which creates a unique flying experience. Fēnix is an impressive forty metres tall, 813 metres long and has a top speed of 95 km/h. Passengers will inverse three times during a ride. The supplier is leading Swiss roller coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard.

Merlin’s world

Fēnix is part of Avalon, the world of the almighty wizard Merlin. Fēnix is a firebird that arises from its own ashes every 777 years. Visitors are allowed to take a seat under the wings of Fēnix and accompany him on his first flight after his resurrection. Avalon also has a boatride called Merlin’s Quest.
