Let our guests catch their breaths and help them to escape the daily issues. We do this by offering them a sophisticated palet of attractions, shows, play equipment, delicious food and drink, beautiful nature, detailed themes and particularly...with the help of our secret weapon: our staff!
The true magic of Toverland is the enthusiasm and ownership of our staff. They create those magical experiences of happiness by truly seeing our guests, immerse them in hospitality and exceed their expectations.
Theme park Toverland's magic started with a proper Dutch rain shower. Founder Jean Gelissen was walking with his family in a recreation park. When it suddenly started to rain, most of the visitors headed for the exit. He realized how weather-dependent traditional parks are. It turned out to be a gap in the market. Gelissen, also the owner of construction company Gepla (Gelissen Ceilings), presented his idea to his sister Caroline Kortooms, who at the time worked as a junior school teacher.
Filled with enthusiasm they took a leap of faith. By visiting various parks and listening to the wishes of future guests, their dream gradually took shape. The park had to have its own unique identity, something that really played on the imagination. The main theme became 'Magic' because after all, the power of magic is timeless and universal. Their passion, the belief in Toverland and their perseverance ensured that their dream came true.
It was on 19 May 2001 that the gates of a magical world called: Theme park Toverland, opened for the very first time. The indoor theme area Land van Toos with an indoor roller coaster called Toos-Express and an oriental swing mill, turned out to be a huge success. There were so many guests that got enchated in this first year, that very soon plans were made for a second indoor theme area.
Wunderwald opened in 2004. Guests were able to try a spectacular bobsleigh ride or end their day with a huge splash on a wild water ride. Outside a rollercoaster-world premiere took place...the opening of the first motorbike rollercoaster called Booster Bike.
In 2007, the fastest, tallest and longest wooden rollercoaster of the Benelux settles down in Toverland. This spectacular rollercoaster with the name Troy really puts the theme park on the map and also starts to attract more guests from further afield. With its 90 km per hour and a track of more than a kilometre is Troy the number 1 of many rollercoaster fan. In 2010, the theme area of Greek mythology receives a further expansion around Troy with swing boat Scorpios and Paarden van Ithaka (Horses of Ithaka), where our youngest guests can enjoy a horse ride.

2013 is the year when for the first time magical water flows through Magische Vallei, the name of Toverland's new themed world. Thanks to this magical masterpiece of thematization, the park suddenly becomes one-and-a-half times bigger. This new world is inhabited by magical people with the name Dwervels. Magische Vallei consists of eight new attractions, including the rotating rollercoaster Dwervelwind and Djengu River, a 450 metres-long crazy river ride. Visitors respond enthusiastically to the enchantment of Magische Vallei. Toverland also has the pleasure to receive more international rewards for this new park segment, with as jewel in the crown, the Zoover audience award for ‘Best theme park of the Netherlands’.
A new bobsleigh ride called Maximus’ Blitz Bahn opens in 2015. This starts the search for the fastest bobsleigh driver ever. Visitors are able in a fully themed queue, the house of inventor Maximus Müller, to admire his most recent inventions. In honour of the new bobsleigh ride, this themed world with the name Wunderwald receives an Austrian theme including a new Biergarten. At the end of that year, an Austrian swing mill inhabited by four ghosts also opens. Its name is Djinn.
A visit to Toverland is now more magical then ever. In 2018, Toverland opens a new entrance with the name Port Laguna and a new theme area called Avalon. Visitors can discover their own magic by performing it themselves in Port Laguna, search for the source of eternal life in a boatride called Merlin’s Quest or enjoy a ride on the spectacular wing coaster Fēnix. Again, this expansion makes the park one-and-a-half times bigger. The new areas are appreciated far across the borders: Toverland receives 9 international awards, including the European Star Award for Best Theme park.
More history shall be written in the years to come. Toverland has the ambition to break the magical threshold of 1 million visitors. The park wants to achieve this by lengthening the duration of stay and expand even further. Also a four-star hotel resort next to the park is part of the plans. The future is magical!
